Issues

Affordable Housing

In Harrisonburg, affordable housing is a vital necessity, especially for low-income renters who are the most vulnerable in our community. Everyone deserves a safe and stable place to call home, yet soaring housing costs have made it increasingly difficult for many individuals and families to secure suitable housing options. We must work to retain folks in Harrisonburg and not let the cost of housing drive them out of the city.

I strongly support prioritizing affordable housing initiatives to help those who need it the most in Harrisonburg. I want to build upon the work of the city council and stakeholders in our community, who have already made great progress on this vital issue.

Transportation

While our current transportation options serves students fairly well with direct routes to schools and university campuses, it can fall short for other residents. For those who rely on public transportation for work or daily errands, limited coverage and off-peak schedules can pose a challenge.

As a candidate for Harrisonburg City Council, I believe in investing in improving public transportation to better serve our community. For example, by increasing bus services for late-shift workers, we can ensure that individuals can get to and from work safely and efficiently.

I am committed to exploring these solutions and advocating for an expanded bus schedule to accommodate the diverse needs of our hardworking residents.

Child Care and Education

We need more options for working parents and families to have access to child care. Investing in early childhood education promotes academic readiness, social-emotional development, and long-term positive outcomes. Moreover, by expanding our already excellent education system in Harrisonburg, including our public schools, we can create a seamless educational experience that supports students from their earliest years through their academic journey.

Iā€™m committed to working with others in exploring solutions to improve the amount of options for child care and early childhood development in Harrisonburg.
